When it’s too cold to enjoy the swimming in Christchurch during winter you may be wondering what other activities there are to do in the garden city. Well, here are 5 of our favourite things to do!

Fill up at the Re:START mall

You will get to see a unique side to Christchurch which was born out the earthquake in 2011. With a wide range choices for food like burgers, pizza, Greek and vegetarian options you will always be spoiled for choices of delicious food cooked right in front of you.

Watch a movie at Deluxe Cinema in the Tannery

Deluxe Cinemas aren’t just an ordinary theater, they aim to capture the essence of film and provide an experience through cinema design, exceptional service and quality snacks such as hand-rolled ice creams, cheese boards and craft beer.

Go Skiing at Mount Hutt

OK so not exactly in Christchurch, but it’s only a couple of hours away! You can hire your gear locally or at the mountain and enjoy a day on the slopes.

See the Christchurch Farmers Market

Every Saturday between 9am – 1pm at Riccarton Bush, the locals put on a market showing local culture and craftsmanship in the form of spreads, food, jams and clothes. Free entry for everyone to come down and see.

Visit New Zealand’s only Mountain Gorillas

Orana Park recently adopted 3 Mountain Gorillas (including a 190kg Silverback!). Located on the outskirts of Christchurch at Mcleans Island, these magnificent primates are well worth the visit.
