Ivory Towers Backpackers Lodge

This Fox Glacier lodge has been owned and operated by the Scott family for many years and  offers the best in budget accommodation for tourists and backpackers in this area of the West Coast – and what a area – Glorious high mountains, magnificent forests, dark brooding lakes, with wild windswept beaches… and the Fox Glacier.

Our accommodation offers a variety of styles, our largest dorm is just six as well as four share triples and quads. Private rooms many with ensuite and flat screen tv.
Double and twin rooms with share bathrooms all with heating and towels. The lodge offers free wifi, sauna, spa and well equipped kitchens with free herbs tea and coffee. There is a cosy lounge with wood fire and a separate tv room with heaps of free DVDs. We have a covered BBQ area and lots of quiet outdoor spaces.

  • Parking - Around the lodge aswell as on the street adjacent to the lodge.
  • Kitchens - Large and fully equipped.
  • Book Exchange - Swap your finished book for a new one.
  • Free Bag Storage - You can store you bag while out on a hike or waiting for the bus.
  • BBQ area - Large outdoor area with bbq.
  • Bike Hire - $6 per hour, $15 for 3 hours, $25 full day
  • Sauna and Spa - Enjoy our sauna and spa, free of charge


  • Can I hire a bike?
    Yes we do have mountain bikes for hire
  • Can I check in late?
    Yes if the office is closed we will leave a key at the front office with instructions on how to find your room.
  • Does the hostel have parking?
    Yes we do and there is plenty adjacent to the lodge.

Urgent Coronavirus Update

Anyone that has arrived into New Zealand from Monday 16th March 1am is required to self-isolate for 14 days.  If you do not do this you will be deported out of New Zealand if you are caught. If you need advice you can call the health line  0800 358 5453 or +64 9 358 5453  Do not enter a hostel, a hospital or a doctors clinic instead call the health line if you think you have the coronavirus.  If you need somewhere to self-isolate we might be able to help you so send an email to [email protected]co.nz.  Many hostels are now checking your passports to see when you have entered the country and will report you to the police if you are not following the New Zealand requirements.
