Saltwater Lodge is Paihia’s only purpose built 5 Star Qalmark backpackers located in the hub of vibrant Kings Road Paihia just a few steps to great cafe’s, bars and 50 meters to the best swimming beach.
Our 6 and 4 bed dorms are the most spacious available, they all have private ensuite bathrooms and all open out onto a wide sun-drenched deck. Each bed has its own reading light, and there is in-room lockable storage for each guest.

We can also offer you a deluxe female dorm as well. There is something for everyone at Saltwater Lodge.

Our private rooms, located on the top floor, feature Californian King beds or twin if you prefer flat-screen tvs, ensuite bathrooms, tea & coffee making facilities, under bench fridge and they too open onto a wide sun-drenched deck. All our rooms have opening windows, safe to leave open all night, for ventilation & comfort.

You will just love our BBQ area & well equipped kitchen with complementary pots of fresh herbs and salad greens, large communal common room, complimentary use of cruiser bikes, unlimited wifi, access to tennis courts and so much more.

  • What time is check in?
    Check in is available from 2 pm.
  • How do I check in after hours?
    There is a key lock box located outside reception. Please advise at the time of booking and we will provide you a code.
  • What time are reception hours? Can I check in late?
    Reception hours are seasonally adjusted 8 am - 8 pm in the summer 8 am to 6 pm winter. Yes you can check in later we will provide you a code for our key lock box.
  • What time is check out? Can I have a late checkout?
    Check out is 10 am a later check out maybe possible please check with the manager. In some cases a fee may apply.
  • Do you offer female-only dorms?
    Yes we have both deluxe and standard female dorms.
  • What payment methods are accepted?
    We accept Cash, Eftpos, Visa & Mastercard. Credit cards must be present for payment (2.5% fee on credit card transactions). We also request a $20 cash key deposit.
  • How long does it take to get into town?
    The center of the Paihia village is a leisurely 10 minute walk along the beach or just a couple of minutes using one of our free cruiser bikes.
  • Are there any shops or places to eat nearby?
    In just a few paces you can be at cafe's and bars (less than a minute) also a convenience store.

Urgent Coronavirus Update

Anyone that has arrived into New Zealand from Monday 16th March 1am is required to self-isolate for 14 days.  If you do not do this you will be deported out of New Zealand if you are caught. If you need advice you can call the health line  0800 358 5453 or +64 9 358 5453  Do not enter a hostel, a hospital or a doctors clinic instead call the health line if you think you have the coronavirus.  If you need somewhere to self-isolate we might be able to help you so send an email to [email protected]  Many hostels are now checking your passports to see when you have entered the country and will report you to the police if you are not following the New Zealand requirements.
