As the only kayak operator in Kaikōura with a marine mammal permit to view seals, dolphins, and whales, you’ll be in safe, qualified hands led by passionate local experts.

Paddle through the breathtaking coastal waters of the Kaikōura Peninsula on a guided sea kayaking tour, where dramatic scenery meets an incredible abundance of marine life.

Keep an eye out for playful fur seals weaving around your kayak — and if you’re lucky, you might spot dusky dolphins or graceful albatross as you paddle beneath Kaikōura’s rugged cliffs and dramatic coastline.

Our traditional, stable double sea kayaks are easy to use, fast on the water, and designed for comfort — complete with lumbar-supported seats, adjustable foot pegs, and spray skirts to keep you warm and dry.

We provide all the gear you’ll need: dry bags for cameras, paddle jackets, life vests, spray skirts, dive booties, and dry pants during the cooler months.

Tours & Products

Summer: Oct-March: 8:30am, 12:30pm & 4:30pm

Winter:  April-Sept 8:30am & 12:30pm

Allow: 3 hours duration (1.5 hours approx. paddling time)

What to wear:  Thermal top/fleece/shorts or light pants e.g. quick dry (no jeans), sunglasses, cap, running shoes or sandals, drinking water and camera.

Price:

$85.00 Child (12 years & under) with your discount pay $76.50

Special conditions:

Clients who cancel their tour within 48 hours of the scheduled trip are not eligible for any refund. Kaikoura Kayaks reserves the right to cancel trips due to the weather and sea conditions. Where Kaikoura Kayaks cancels a kayaking trip prior to departure, a full refund is available. Where a trip has commenced and is subsequently cancelled, participants shall receive a 70% refund.

In any adventure activity, there is an element of risk involved. The risks and hazards include, but are not limited to property damage, personal injury, illness because of adverse weather conditions, risk of drowning or death, sunburn, dehydration, hyperthermia & exhaustion, rolling or capsizing or flipping kayaks and Sups, hitting obstacles, (such as rocks or other watercraft) or being hit by other watercraft and equipment failure.
