  • How do I become a member?

    Join here, on our website or ask a staff member at a hostel to help you purchase your membership.  This membership is an annual signup.  It will not automatically renew.

  • How do I book an activity?

    Once you have become a member any activity booking must be made via the TBG website and follow the instructions. Some of our activities have special discount codes that you will need to use during the booking process OR book direct with the activity.  No discount will be accepted if you book via a third party.

  • Why should I join TBG?

    For just $35 you get 10% discount off all TBG hostels in New Zealand – it will save you money straight away! We also have activities that have joined the group and offering you 10% off an activity. Choice!

  • Do all the TBG hostels have the same terms and conditions?

    No each hostel is owned and operated individually so please check the hostel T&C’s before booking your stay.

  • Are family memberships available?

    No we don’t offer a family membership.

  • Can someone else use my membership?

    No it is only for you to use, and you may be asked by staff for a second proof of ID ie passport, drivers license or credit card when checking in.

  • How do I get my membership card?

    Once you have signed up you will receive an email with a digital card.  There is no need to print it just keep it handy for when you check in.  Download the PDF or if you take a screen shot on your phone then that makes it easy for you to pull out when required.  We are all about saving the trees! 

  • Can I renew my membership if it’s already expired?

    Yes you sure can! Once your membership expires you will need to renew it it wont happen automatically.  Just go back into your account and click renew.  

  • Do I have to be a member to stay at a TBG hostel?

    Non-members are more than welcome to stay at any of our TBG hostels by booking in at the standard rate. TBG members save 10% on accommodation when booking direct at www.thebackpackergroup.co.nz  or at a hostel reception.

  • Is there an age limit for TBG membership?

    Yes there is because not all hostels allow children 17 years and under.  Families can join as a couple and if you have children you will need to check with each hostel if they are happy to have them to stay before booking.  Anyone 18 years and older is an adult.

  • What if I want to cancel my membership?

    Sadly, the membership is non-refundable so double check your trip and our membership that it will work for you.

  • What if I am unhappy with the service of a hostel or activity?

    We pride ourselves on top customer service and hospitality.  However if you do want to lay a complaint TBG is not liable you will need to get in touch directly with the provider.
