Various cruise tours – including the famous Hole in the Rock cruise – depart daily from Paihia Wharf, which is where other Bay of Islands activities like fishing, sea kayaking, paddleboarding, sailing and dolphin-watching can also be arranged.  Paihia Wharf is situated just across the road, making this Bay of Islands backpackers address ultra-convenient for guests, who can literally stroll across the street and onto a cruise tour. The Bay of Islands is a natural harbour some 16 km wide, and is home to nearly 150 islands that range from rocky outcrops to large inhabited islands with private farms.   • WHAT PAYMENTS METHOD CAN I USE TO BOOK A STAY?
    Credit Card –Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, EFTPOS card, Cash.
  • CAN UNDER 18 STAY IN THE HOSTEL?
    Haka House Hostels strictly prohibits bookings from individuals under the age of 18 unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The following guidelines apply: Accompanied Under 18’s: Individuals under the age of 18 can only stay at the Hostel when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in the same room. The room must be private. No extra beds, cot or baby crib are provided at the Hostel. Shared Room Exceptions for Unaccompanied Under 18’s in Groups: Unaccompanied under 18’s are not allowed to stay in shared rooms, unless they are part of a group that has booked out the entire shared room. The group leader must provide the required documentation to Haka House. Consequences of Non-Adherence: Failure to comply with these policies will result in automatic cancellation of the booking with no refund. Guests violating these rules will not be permitted to check into the Hostel. Please ensure that you review and comply with these age-related policies to ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay at Haka House.
  • WHAT TIME IS CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT?
    Check-in is any time from 2 pm and check-out is at 10 am. We can also arrange for an after-hours check in upon request before arrival.
  • WHAT ARE YOUR RECEPTION HOURS?
    Our reception is open 7 days a week from 9 am – 5:30 pm
  • CAN I ARRIVE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT?
    If you are arriving in after reception hours, you will need to advise us of late arrival plans prior to the date of arrival. In these instances, directions on how to obtain the room key will be informed by the Haka House Team. Entrance into the Haka House Property will be treated as an acceptance of our terms and conditions. Only paid bookings will receive an email from us with after-hours check-in instructions.
  • CAN I STORE MY LUGGAGE BEFORE AND AFTER CHECK-IN?
    Same-day luggage storage is free. Just ask our friendly Front Office team.
  • DOES HAKA HOUSE BAY OF ISLANDS HAVE DISABLED ACCESS?
    Unfortunately, our property cannot accommodate
  • ARE THERE HAIR DRYERS?
    You will find Hair Dryers in all our bathrooms throughout the property. You will also find the added bonus of Shower Gel!
  • ARE TOWELS SUPPLIED IN ALL ROOMS?
    Only our private rooms come with towels. You can hire a towel from reception for a small charge.
  • DOES YOUR HOSTEL ACCEPT PETS?
    Assistance dogs, such as guide dogs, hearing dogs, and dogs for those who are disabled, are permitted. Otherwise, we uphold a strict no pets policy. v
  • ARE WE ALLOWED TO BRING ALCOHOL?
    You are welcome to drink alcohol that you have purchased in the common areas only. Please do not take alcohol into the bedrooms and we ask you to be mindful of our other guests – we enjoy a drink or two but we are not a party hostel!
  • CAN I BRING GUESTS IN WHO AREN'T STAYING IN THE HOSTEL?
    Everyone is welcome in the social areas only. All non-guest visitors must be met by a named guest and signed in at reception before accessing the building. The named guest is responsible for the visitor while onsite and is liable for any damages and room fees that the visitor incurs. All non-guest visitors must leave the property before 8pm. All non-guest visitors must only use the common areas.
  • DO YOU HAVE LAUNDRY FACILITIES?
    The self-serve laundry is located on the ground floor and is open from 2pm -10pm Our on-site self-service laundry provides a handy way to clean your clothes, with washing machines and tumble dryers available. Missing detergent? Just pop by Reception to purchase.
  • DO YOU HAVE PARKING?
    We do not have parking, however you will find public parking facilities close by.
