Hostel Amenities

Alongside the well equipped facilities and ensuites with certain rooms - Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers offers you a number of amenities:

Kitchen - Two fully equipped communal kitchens (with a number of rooms also having their own kitchens).
Laundry - Coin operated washing machine and dryer, clothes line also on site. Laundry powder available at reception.
Storage - Storage available at reception for luggage and personal goods.
Linen - All rooms have full linen provided. Private rooms also come with towels provided.
BBQ Area - Large outdoor BBQ deck and seating, including outdoor kitchen.
Smoke Free - Rooms are smoke-free, smoking is only permitted in outdoor areas.
Lounge - One TV room and two spacious lounges, each with a fireplace and lake view. Games - puzzles and a book exchange free for you to enjoy.
Parking - Free car parks are available around the hostel or outside on the street.
WIFI - Free unlimited WiFi is available throughout the hostel.

FAQs

Can you book activities directly through the hostel?

Yes this is possible. We offer extensive knowledge of the area and are happy to help you arrange any of these activities. If you are a TBG member then you will need to book any TBG activities direct.
What can you do on a rainy day in Te Anau?

Many of the outdoor destinations around Te Anau are actually just as beautiful in the rain. However, if the weather really isn’t cooperating or if you just don’t want to face the storm, you can choose to binge-watch TV in our comfortable TV room, visit the Glowworm Caves or the Fiordland Cinema or try your luck in the Te Anau Escape Room.
What free activities are there?

Fiordland National Park is full of the most amazing scenery in the country. Walking is free, so just go out and explore! The Te Anau Bird Sanctuary breeds protected bird species which you can also go and see for free. There is a Frisbee Golf pitch in town as well.
What time is check-in and check-out?

Regular check-in is available between 2PM and 8PM. Late check-in can be arranged if necessary. Check out time is 10AM.
Is there free parking at your hostel?

Yes we offer free parking at the hostel. Spaces are limited but street parking is also available and free of charge.
Where are the nearest supermarkets?

Te Anau has 2 supermarkets in town. Both Four Square and FreshChoice are within 5 minutes walking distance of the hostel.
Do you have a place to store luggage?

Yes we offer luggage storage. Large storage lockers are available for overnight hiking trips as well.
Are there laundry facilities?

Yes, we offer coin-operated machines, both for washing and drying. There are also clothes lines outside, and laundry powder is available at reception.
Do I need to bring linen?

No, all linen are provided for all our rooms, including shared rooms. Private rooms also have towels provided.
